If you were attempting to buy a phone off of a website, like for example, Craigslist, you’ll find many phones that are very cheap. One considers if these cheap phones are that low in price because they are stolen. It is a very moral way of thinking. First if you wanted to know if the phone was stolen or not, ask the seller.
Sometimes the seller will be honest with you and say its stolen. Second if the seller responds to that question with some kind of slight vagueness to it, he or she, is probably a thief and stole it. Its not recommended to deal with these types of people. Third if you do buy, and notice you cannot turn the phone on without some sort of lock permitting you from using the phone, it is probably a stolen phone. The phone companies like to lock cell phones that are stolen because they lose money for allowing stolen phones to circulate around without them actual receiving any profits from the cell phone sale. Take this cell phone back to the seller and return as fast as possible. You will need to recoup the amount of money that the seller sold it to you now.
Stolen cell phones might also have physical damage to them as they might have been stolen during a mugging, or a fight. The phone might have scraped itself on the ground while the scuffle was happening. Check the condition of the physical phone! Another thing to note is that cell phones which are stolen are widely available, so please be wary of this while you are out on a search for cell phone on the market, or even at your local flea market or swap meet.
The most important thing about locating stolen phones is the type of information already put into the phone. If the seller is a male, and you find many female pictures in the phone, or texts saying “Dear Mom, I miss you!,” it’s probably a stolen phone. Use your common sense when dealing with these types of situations. Use your head, and use all your resources. Some phones let owners put their names into the phone, check that feature as well.
All in all, cell phone thieves are on the prowl, make sure you hold your own cell phone close to you while you are out in the street, and especially if you take public transportation! lastly, you never want to buy a stolen phone cause if the original owner of the phone is trying to locate it, you will be the first one to blame! Good luck during your own phone buying search!
